Rock

Rock music is one of those genres that’s hard to pin down in just a few words, but you definitely know it when you hear it. It first showed up in the United States during the late 1940s and 1950s, growing out of a mix of blues, rhythm and blues, and country music. What really gave rock its edge was the use of electric guitars, a strong beat, and a kind of raw energy that earlier music styles didn’t quite have. It’s also known for its live performances, where the energy of the music really comes alive.

There are plenty of fun facts that make rock even more interesting. For example, one of the earliest rock songs often mentioned is Rocket 88 from 1951, and the term rock and roll was popularized by a radio DJ named Alan Freed. Also, not everyone knows that Sister Rosetta Tharpe, often called the godmother of rock and roll, was shredding on an electric guitar long before it became mainstream. Over the decades, rock has gone from being seen as rebellious or even controversial to becoming one of the most influential and lasting genres in music history, shaping culture, fashion, and even attitudes around the world.
