Few bands have stayed as vital or as loud as the Rolling Stones, who have been at it since London in 1962. Built on a foundation of blues and early rock and roll, they evolved into one of the defining acts of the rock era, with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards driving the songwriting from the mid 1960s onward. The hits came fast and kept coming: "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "Sympathy for the Devil", "Gimme Shelter", "Start Me Up", and dozens more that still fill arenas decades later. Albums like Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, and Exile on Main St. are as essential now as when they dropped. The band has shuffled its lineup over the years, losing Brian Jones, then Mick Taylor, then Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away in 2021. Through it all, Jagger, Richards and Ronnie Wood have kept the engine running. They broke the record for the highest grossing concert tour three times over, and in 2023 they released Hackney Diamonds, their first album of original material in 18 years, which went straight to number one in the UK.
