What started as Dave Grohl recording 15 songs almost entirely by himself in a borrowed studio became one of the biggest rock bands of the past three decades. Grohl built the Foo Fighters from the ground up after Nirvana disbanded in 1994, playing nearly every instrument on the debut and deliberately hiding behind a band name so listeners wouldn't know it was a solo project. He later called it "the stupidest fucking band name in the world," yet it stuck. Over twelve studio albums the band has pushed through lineup changes, genre experiments and real tragedy, including the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022, to remain a genuine force in rock. Highlights along the way include the hard hitting The Colour and the Shape, the double disc In Your Honor, the Butch Vig produced Wasting Light, and the 2023 release But Here We Are. They have won 15 Grammy Awards, been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility, and received the inaugural Global Icon award at the 2021 MTV VMAs.
