About
Royal Blood built a huge rock sound out of just two people, and the trick is Mike Kerr's bass. Running it through effects pedals and amps, he makes one instrument sound like guitar and bass at the same time, with Ben Thatcher driving things on drums. The duo came together in Worthing and found that signature sound after their guitarist left, which pushed the bass to the front. Things moved fast. A Royal Blood shirt on Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders at Glastonbury helped spark the buzz, and their self titled 2014 debut became the fastest selling British rock debut album in three years. They picked up the Best British Group Brit Award in 2015 and have since followed up with How Did We Get So Dark?, Typhoons and Back to the Water Below. At Glastonbury 2023, Thatcher returned the favour by wearing an Arctic Monkeys T shirt on the Pyramid Stage.
