Few bands have a catalog as immediately recognizable as AC/DC's. Formed in Sydney in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young, the band built their reputation on no frills, high voltage hard rock that they always insisted on calling simply rock and roll. The name itself came from a symbol on Margaret Young's sewing machine, and the lightning bolt logo, designed by Gerard Huerta in 1977, has been synonymous with the band ever since. After the death of vocalist Bon Scott in 1980, many expected the band to fold. Instead, they recruited Brian Johnson and recorded Back in Black, one of the best selling albums of all time. The lineup has shifted over the decades, including Malcolm Young's retirement in 2014 due to dementia and his death three years later, with nephew Stevie Young stepping in. Through it all, Angus has kept the band going, and their 2020 album Power Up brought the Rock or Bust lineup back together. They have sold over 200 million records worldwide.
