Few bands have a song as deeply embedded in popular culture as Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'", which in 2024 was certified 18 times platinum by the RIAA, making it the top selling digital track in US history. The San Francisco group started out in 1973 playing jazz fusion and progressive rock, then pivoted hard toward polished pop rock with 1978's Infinity, a move that redefined them entirely. Their 1981 album Escape hit number one on the Billboard 200 and gave the world both "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Open Arms", while the follow up Frontiers pushed them to number two in the US and cracked the UK Albums Chart at number six. With Steve Perry on vocals during their peak years, Journey racked up 19 top 40 singles in the US and 25 gold and platinum albums. Their 1988 Greatest Hits collection has since earned Diamond certification. After reunions in the mid 90s and again from 1998 onward, Filipino singer Arnel Pineda stepped into the lead vocalist role in 2007 and has been with the band since. More recently the band released new material including "You Got The Best Of Me" and "The Way We Used To Be", showing they are far from done.
