Few bands have racked up the kind of numbers Nickelback have. Formed in Hanna, Alberta in 1995, the Canadian rock group broke through globally with "How You Remind Me", which sat at number one in both the US and Canada and was named the best selling rock song of the entire 2000s decade by Billboard. Their 2005 album All the Right Reasons is their commercial peak, spawning hits including "Photograph", "Far Away" and "Rockstar", with the latter becoming their biggest moment in the UK. By any measure, more than 50 million albums sold worldwide is a remarkable run. Their sound has shifted across a long catalogue, from the post grunge crunch of Silver Side Up through the harder riffing of Dark Horse to the more varied textures on No Fixed Address. Dark Horse in particular leaned heavier on guitar and is widely considered their most hard rock record. In 2023 they were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, a recognition that sits a bit awkwardly alongside their reputation as one of the most divisive acts in rock, but the sales figures are hard to argue with.
