Formed in Wiesbaden back in 1985, Exumer built their reputation on raw, aggressive thrash metal across two albums before calling it quits in 1991. Their debut, Possessed by Fire, drew comparisons to fellow German acts of the era, while Rising from the Sea pushed harder into Slayer territory, largely thanks to vocalist Paul Arakari's delivery sitting close to Tom Araya's style. After nearly a decade away, a one off appearance at Wacken Open Air in 2001 showed there was still appetite for the band, and a full comeback followed in 2008. The third album, Fire & Damnation, arrived in 2012 and marked a proper return to form, with The Raging Tides following in 2016 and Hostile Defiance rounding out the run in 2019. The Frankfurt act has kept the flame going for close to four decades now, and as of mid 2024 they are deep into writing material for their next record.
