About
Built around the post Megadeth restlessness of bassist David Ellefson, F5 formed in Phoenix, Arizona after Ellefson found himself locked out of his old band and looking for somewhere to channel his energy. He connected with guitarist Steve Conley while producing a local act called Lifted, and the lineup eventually rounded out with guitarist John Davis, vocalist Dale Steele, and drummer Dave Small. The result was a heavy metal outfit with serious pedigree but its own sound to develop. Their 2005 debut A Drug for All Seasons, produced by Ryan Greene who had also worked with Bad Religion and NOFX, got a proper worldwide release across three labels and scored an MTV premiere for the track "Dissidence". By the time second album The Reckoning landed in 2008, former Megadeth drummer Jimmy DeGrasso had stepped in behind the kit, giving the rhythm section a familiar chemistry. The band wound down gradually as members drifted back to other projects, with Ellefson rejoining Megadeth in 2010 and Conley moving on to Flotsam and Jetsam in 2013.
