About
Fantasie Ensemble grew out of a shared dream between violinist Diet Tilanus and Olivier Patey, solo clarinetist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, to perform Schubert's Octet together. Rather than a fixed roster, the ensemble brings together friends and fellow musicians from the Dutch and international classical scene, united by a common artistic vision. The group's name gestures toward exactly that spirit of imaginative collaboration. Schubert's Octet sits at the heart of what the ensemble does: chamber music that breathes with something close to symphonic scale, demanding real trust and attentiveness between players. It's a piece full of warmth and courtly grace, but with harmonic shadows moving beneath the surface, reflecting the composer's awareness of his own vulnerability and his longing for an unattainable love.
