Fat Joe, born Joseph Antonio Cartagena in the Bronx, has been a fixture in New York hip hop since the early 1990s when he rolled with D.I.T.C. and dropped his debut album Represent in 1993. His lead single "Flow Joe" hit number one on the Hot Rap Songs chart, and he kept building from there, founding Terror Squad Entertainment and signing artists like Big Pun, Remy Ma, and a then unknown DJ Khaled. His 2001 album Jealous Ones Still Envy went platinum on the strength of "What's Luv?" featuring Ja Rule and Ashanti, but it was "Lean Back" with Terror Squad in 2004 that topped the Billboard Hot 100 and became his signature record. He came back strong in 2016 with "All the Way Up" alongside Remy Ma, scoring his first top 40 hit in nearly a decade, and in 2019 he linked up with producer Dre for the collaborative album Family Ties, featuring Cardi B and Lil Wayne among others.
