About
FAX, also billed as Fax Machine, is a band built on nine years of friendship that began in a rehearsal room, where they wrote their first songs, Giraffe and Variations, and loved giving everything one word titles. Max van Rossem founded the band and handled drums and vocals. Their sound moves between two poles. Spreadsheets of Love, a demo put online in late 2024, leans acoustic, funky and disco. Algorithms of Devotion goes electronic, with more drive, depth and darkness, a style the band describes as corporate funk. Max sang through a vocoder on those tracks. He died before they were finished, so the others completed the EP themselves, re recording everything except his vocals, which came from his first takes. The aim was to make those vocals groove, and the finished record is meant as a celebration, not a memorial.
