About
Fee Aaij, born in 2004, is a Dutch pianist, composer and aspiring art historian based in Arnhem. She leads the Joker 4tet, a group whose debut album I Am The Joker came out on ZenneZ Records and earned a nomination for the Edison Awards in the Newcomer category. Her music gravitates toward what she calls a broken beauty, finding something worthwhile in sorrow and passion. The result is layered, atmospheric piano music with a strong visual and theatrical sensibility, where rebellion and imagination share the same space. The quartet has taken that world to some genuinely unusual venues, including De Roode Bioscoop in Amsterdam, Podium Azijnfabriek in Den Bosch, Théâtre de l'Ile Saint Louis in Paris, and Nardis Jazzclub in Istanbul. Michiel Braam put the band forward for the Conservatory Talent Award 2025, and Fee has appeared as a guest on Benjamin Herman's NPO programme Get In as well as the injazz On The Road series.
