About
Also known as: Filippos Pliatsikas
Filippos Pliatsikas built his reputation as the driving creative force behind Pyx Lax, the entekhno rock band he co founded in 1989 that became the most popular band in Greece. He wrote, composed and sang for them until the band split in 2004, delivering songs that became genuine Greek classics. His solo work has been just as substantial, with albums regularly hitting gold and platinum sales and a live performance at the Athens Concert Hall with the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra that underlined just how far he had come. The 2011 Pyx Lax reunion broke Greek records for ticket sales, pulling 80,000 people to the Olympic Stadium in Athens and 50,000 to Thessaloniki's Kaftanzoglio Stadium. Pliatsikas has a restless streak when it comes to sound. He mixed a Gospel choir from San Diego with musicians from Epirus on his 2010 album, distributed it free online in a first for Greek music, and has collaborated with the likes of Sting, R.E.M., Eric Burdon and Marc Almond across his career. His 2024 video with Eleonora Zouganeli suggests he is still very much active, continuing to make music that sits somewhere between laïko warmth and entekhno ambition.
