Fireboy DML, born Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan in Ogun, Nigeria, has built one of the most distinctive voices in afrobeats by blending slow groove pop, R&B, and African harmonies into something he calls "Afro Life." He broke through with "Jealous," a track weaving guitar riffs, traditional drums, and country and soul influences that landed on YBNL Nation's 2018 compilation before taking on a life of its own. His debut album Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps racked up over six million Spotify streams in its first three days, and his second album Apollo earned an 8.3 from Pitchfork. The "Peru" remix with Ed Sheeran peaked at number 2 in the UK and went platinum in the US, and his third album Playboy cracked the Billboard 200 at number 123. He has since appeared on Justin Timberlake's album Everything I Thought It Was and sold out Royal Albert Hall. His fourth studio album, named after himself, Adedamola, arrived in 2024 and featured collaborators including Jon Batiste and Nigerian legend Lagbaja. In 2025 he has been active with new visuals alongside producer Pheelz.
