About
Fleshgod Apocalypse take death metal and bolt a full orchestra onto it. Based in Perugia and formed in 2007 by Francesco Paoli, the Italian band built its signature sound around piano and orchestration, which got properly locked in when pianist and orchestrator Francesco Ferrini joined full time ahead of the 2011 album Agony. That record came out on Nuclear Blast, where they've stayed ever since. The discography runs from Oracles and the Mafia EP through Labyrinth, a concept album about the Labyrinth of Knossos, to King, which peaked at number 27 on the Billboard chart. Veleno followed in 2019 and landed on best of lists from Loudwire and Metal Hammer, and during the pandemic they livestreamed a virtual concert from a studio in Rome. More recently they put out the single Pendulum, a song about Paoli's mountain climbing fall that put the band on hiatus.
