About
Floraleda Sacchi is an Italian harpist who refuses to be boxed in by a single instrument or era. Based in Como, she moves between pedal harp, electric harp, and Celtic harp, and has also dug into historical single and double action pedal harps, bringing forgotten 18th and 19th century composers like Sophia Dussek and Alphonse Hasselmans back into circulation through her editorial work. Her repertoire stretches from Bach and Mozart to Philip Glass, and her YouTube catalogue captures that range beautifully. Beyond performing, Sacchi is a serious musicologist. Her 1999 book on the neglected Romantic harpist Elias Parish Alvars won the Harpa Award, and she has written widely on harp history. She created two theatrical harp works, Mystery Tales and Travel to the Moon, the latter combining live harp with a planetarium setting. She also provided the score for a RAI TV film that screened at the Venice Film Festival, and since 2006 she has run the Lake Como Festival as artistic director.
