About
Also known as: Inga DeCarlo Fung Marchand, Inga Fung Marchand
Few rappers landed as hard out the gate as Foxy Brown. Her 1996 debut Ill Na Na went platinum, peaked at number seven on the Billboard 200, and gave her a top ten hit with "I'll Be" featuring Jay Z. She was 17 when Def Jam signed her, and the album's mix of sharp lyricism and provocative delivery made her one of the defining voices of late 90s east coast hip hop. She kept the momentum rolling by linking up with Nas, AZ and Cormega to form supergroup The Firm, whose self titled album hit number one on the Billboard 200 in 1997. Her sophomore solo effort Chyna Doll also debuted at the top spot, making her only the second female rapper ever to pull that off. Broken Silence followed in 2001, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance. After years of legal troubles and shelved projects, she eventually dropped the mixtape Brooklyn's Don Diva in 2008.
