Francesco Piemontesi is a Swiss pianist whose playing has taken him to some of the world's most respected concert halls and orchestras. A third prize winner at the Queen Elisabeth Competition for piano in 2007, he has performed as a soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, and a string of other major ensembles, working alongside conductors including Zubin Mehta, Charles Dutoit, and Vladimir Ashkenazy. Between 2009 and 2011 he was part of the BBC New Generation Artists scheme, one of the more reliable early signals that a young musician is genuinely worth watching. His recordings for Naïve Records include releases of Debussy Préludes, Mozart piano works, and a Schumann and Dvorak concerto disc with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician he regularly plays with Jörg Widmann and the Capuçon brothers. Since 2012 he has also served as artistic director of the Settimane Musicali di Ascona, bringing a curatorial side to a career that already has plenty going on.
