About
Also known as: Франсуа Сальк
François Salque is one of those cellists who moves just as comfortably through a Brahms sonata as he does through a Piazzolla tango. The French cellist has built a discography spanning labels like Sony, Alpha and Zig Zag Territoires, earning repeated recognition from the Diapason d'or de l'année and the Grand Prix du disque de l'Académie Charles Cros among others. His chamber work with pianists Éric Le Sage and Alexandre Tharaud, flautist Emmanuel Pahud, and accordionist Vincent Peirani gives a good sense of his range, from core Austro German repertoire to exploratory crossover projects. Salque spent four years in the Ysaÿe Quartet, recording everything from Fauré and Haydn to little known Beethoven fragments and the Mozart Clarinet Quintet with Michel Portal. Composers including Nicolas Bacri, Karol Beffa and Thierry Escaich have written works specifically for him, which says a lot about the regard he commands in contemporary French musical circles. He also teaches at both the Haute École de musique de Lausanne and the Conservatoire de Paris.
