About
Frans van Ruth is a Dutch classical pianist with a deep focus on chamber music, and he has spent decades digging into lesser known repertoire that most performers overlook. From the early 1980s onward, he and colleague Willem Noske threw themselves into researching Dutch music from the 19th and early 20th centuries, producing a string of concerts and recordings that brought neglected composers back into the light. He also organized festivals centered on figures like Schumann, Poulenc, and Jolivet, as well as poets including Heine and Rilke. In 1995 he co founded the Leo Smit Foundation alongside flutist Eleonore Pameijer, and for nearly a decade he programmed and performed at the Uilenburger Concerts in Amsterdam, clocking over two hundred works with a particular lean toward music from the interwar period, including dozens of premieres. He has long played duo with cellist Doris Hochscheid, is a co founder of the Amsterdam Bridge Ensemble, and since 1997 has headed the chamber music department at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
