FRED FRITH, TIM HODGKINSON & LIZ ALBEE

About

Fred Frith and Tim Hodgkinson go back a long way: the two co founded Henry Cow in 1968, and their shared history in radical experimental music runs through decades of restless exploration. Frith is best known as a pioneering electric guitarist, improviser, songwriter, and composer for film, dance and theatre. Beyond Henry Cow, his work spans bands including Art Bears, Massacre, Skeleton Crew, the Fred Frith Guitar Quartet, Cosa Brava and Fremakajo, always keeping one foot in rock and folk while pushing into stranger territory. He has recorded as a session musician with the likes of Brian Eno, Robert Wyatt, The Swans and John Zorn. Hodgkinson, who studied social anthropology at Cambridge, has remained a tireless explorer of improvisation, composition and sound anthropology. Completing this trio is Liz Albee, a Berlin based trumpeter and sound artist who extends her instrument through electronics and material experimentation. Together the three work in fully improvised territory, combining prepared guitar, reed work and trumpet with electronics.
