Freedom Call built their reputation on exactly what frontman Chris Bay set out to create: unapologetically joyful, melodic power metal, a sound they've been refining since forming in Nuremberg in 1998. Bay is the sole original member still in the band, and his knack for fast, hook driven songs has been the constant through lineup changes, label shifts and over a decade of steady touring. Their debut Stairway to Fairyland moved more than 35,000 copies in its first year, which is a solid statement for a band selling pure optimism in a genre that often leans darker. Over the years Freedom Call have put out eleven studio albums and a handful of live releases, touring alongside acts like Blind Guardian and Angra along the way. Land of the Crimson Dawn, released in early 2012, keeps the formula intact: big choruses, fleet fingered guitar work and the kind of energy that translates well on a festival stage. Their 2013 compilation Ages of Light gave fans a solid overview of fifteen years of happy metal.
