About
Russian soprano Lidia Fridman has carved out a reputation in European opera houses for a voice critics describe as carrying a rare dark, metallic timbre, paired with filigree phrasing and intense dramatic presence. She made her theatrical debut in 2019 in the lead role of the first modern production of Albinoni's La Statira at La Fenice in Venice, and quickly followed that with the title role in Manfroce's Ecuba and the world premiere of Donizetti's L'Ange de Nisida. Since then she has taken on some of the most demanding soprano roles in the repertoire, including Norma at La Monnaie and Teatro Regio, Verdi's Lady Macbeth on tour in Italy, and Salome at the Immling Festival. In 2024 she sang Amelia in Un ballo in maschera at Teatro Regio di Torino under Riccardo Muti. Composers have also written new works specifically for her voice, including operas by Marco Podda and Marco Sinopoli.
