About
The Frysk Jeugd Orkest is a youth orchestra from Friesland, set up in 1977 as a place for young musicians to grow. There's also a Jong FJO, a younger sibling ensemble that plays alongside the main orchestra on bigger occasions, so there's a clear path for players coming up through the ranks. The repertoire mixes the classical canon with something more playful. Past programmes have included the overture to Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail, Holst's Japanese Suite and music from the film The Chronicles of Narnia, often built around a theme that takes listeners to different places and stories. Young soloists from the north get a turn in front of the orchestra too. Fifty years of players have passed through the ranks, and former members have come back to fill the stage as one big reunion orchestra alongside the current line up.
