Gaz Coombes (GB)

About

Also known as: Gareth Coombes, Gareth Michael Coombes

Gaz Coombes was fronting bands before he could legally sign his own record contract. At 14 he led The Jennifers, and his mum had to put her name on the paperwork with Nude Records. That early run led to Supergrass, the Oxford trio he formed with Danny Goffey and Mick Quinn, who met while he was working at a Harvester restaurant. Six studio albums followed, from I Should Coco in 1995 to Diamond Hoo Ha in 2008, and every one of them reached the UK top 20. When Supergrass called it a day in 2010, Coombes headed to his own studio in Oxford and made a solo record, playing most of the instruments himself. Since then he has carried on as a solo artist with an alternative and art rock bent. His YouTube channel shows videos for "Sonny The Strong" and "Don't Say It's Over" from 2022, plus a Kinks cover of "This Time Tomorrow" from earlier on.
