About
Gerald Veasley is a Philadelphia bassist who spent years in the engine rooms of other people's bands before stepping out front. Grover Washington Jr. pulled him in early on, and from 1988 to 1995 he was part of Joe Zawinul's group The Zawinul Syndicate, a globe trotting fusion outfit. His own records started arriving in 1992 with Look Ahead, which had both Washington and Zawinul on it, and his 2008 album Your Move climbed to No. 12 on Billboard's contemporary jazz albums chart. He has also done a ton of studio work, with names like Teddy Pendergrass, B.B. King and Philip Bailey on the list. Away from the stage, he founded Bass Bootcamp in Philadelphia in 2002, a two day camp that has taught over 700 bass players and drawn in guests like Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke and Victor Wooten. He even spent time as a smooth jazz DJ on WJJZ.
