About
Also known as: Gary Fomdeck
Best known as a Dutch radio DJ, Gerard Ekdom spent years building one of the most listened to morning shows in the Netherlands, Arbeidsvitaminen, on 3FM. He took over the show in September 2001 and turned it into a fixture for weekday listeners tuning in between 9 and 12. Beyond radio, he hosted TV shows including a revived version of the classic chart programme TopPop and the Dutch edition of Fort Boyard. Under the alias Gary Fomdeck, Ekdom released a Christmas single called I'll Be There This Christmas to raise money for the Red Cross through 3FM Serious Request, the annual fundraiser where he and colleagues broadcast live from a glass house without eating solid food. The song hit number one on both the Dutch Single Top 100 and the Dutch iTunes chart. He co hosted Serious Request a total of eight times, each edition supporting a different Red Cross cause.
