About
Gerhild Romberger is a German mezzo soprano and contralto with a repertoire that spans from Baroque to contemporary music, covering Lied, oratorio, and concert work. She has performed internationally, including Beethoven's Missa solemnis in South America and his Ninth Symphony at the Beethovenfest 2013 alongside the Bamberg Symphony, conducted by Jonathan Nott. Her 2017 performance of the solo contralto part in Mahler's Second Symphony, conducted by Christoph Eschenbach at Eberbach Abbey, placed her alongside some of the most respected names in orchestral music. Her recording of the chamber version of Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, made with pianist Alfredo Perl, tenor Stephan Rügamer, and the Detmolder Kammerorchester, earned her the ECHO Klassik in 2015 for contemporary chamber music. Beyond performing, she has been shaping the next generation of singers as a professor of voice at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold since 2003.
