About
Formed in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 2008, Gideon have built their reputation on a strain of metalcore that keeps getting heavier. Their 2017 album Cold was a genuine breakthrough, landing at No. 5 on Billboard's Top Hard Music chart and outperforming everything they'd put out before. It showed a band that had figured out how to balance aggression with accessibility, and it got them noticed well beyond their earlier fanbase. Around the same time, the band publicly stepped away from their Christian identity, a shift they said had been building since 2016. Their 2019 EP No Love/No One reflected that change in tone, pushing toward a harder, thrashier sound and leaving behind some of the melodic polish of earlier records. Now signed to Sumerian Records, the lineup of vocalist Daniel McWhorter, guitarist Tyler Riley, bassist Caleb DeRusha and drummer Jake Smelley continues to put out music that sits somewhere between metalcore and hardcore punk.
