About
Gigi Masin made an album in 1986, gave it away at tiny local gigs, and watched most of the leftover copies get wrecked when a flood hit his house. That record, Wind, went on to become a cult object anyway, sampled by Björk, Nujabes and others, and it pulled the Venetian composer back into view decades later. His taste for sound collage runs deep: tape loops, field recordings, records played slowed down or backwards. The revival is what made his name outside Italy. The Music From Memory label put out the retrospective Talk to the Sea in 2014, and Masin reissued Wind on his own label a year later. He also joined Jonny Nash and Young Marco as Gaussian Curve, releasing Clouds and The Distance, and made albums with the duo Tempelhof. Lately his catalogue includes Kite, Postcards from Nowhere with Nash, and Calypso on R & S Records' ambient arm Apollo.
