Gilad Hekselman is an Israeli jazz guitarist based in New York whose playing sits comfortably in the post bop tradition without ever sounding stuck in it. Born in Kfar Saba, he built a serious reputation on the New York scene through collaborations with the likes of Mark Turner, Anat Cohen, Chris Potter, John Scofield, and Esperanza Spalding, whose Grammy winning album Radio Music Society features him as a sideman. As a bandleader he has put out a steady run of albums, from Splitlife in 2006 through to Far Star in 2022, with his working quartet alongside Turner, bassist Joe Martin, and drummer Marcus Gilmore doing a lot of the heavy lifting. His Zuperoctave project and the Trio Grande record show he is not content to stay in one lane, and the range across his catalog reflects a guitarist who keeps pushing the music somewhere new.
