About
Also known as: Glen Jones
Glenn Jones is a fingerstyle guitarist rooted in the American Primitive tradition, a style that traces back to John Fahey's work in the late 1950s. Before establishing himself as a solo instrumentalist, Jones led the post rock ensemble Cul de Sac, a band that collaborated with Can vocalist Damo Suzuki more frequently than Can did themselves. That background feeds into a solo practice built on homemade tunings, custom partial capos, and a picking technique that extends across both guitar and banjo. Over ten albums, Jones has carved out a melodic language that feels genuinely personal: witty, reflective, and shaped by memory. His compositions draw on friendships with figures like John Jackson and the late Jack Rose, encounters with 78 rpm collector Joe Bussard, and quieter domestic anchors like his cats and tender portraits of his mother Nora Smith. The result is music with real emotional weight that never tips into sentimentality.
