About
Also known as: Glenn Raymond Tipton
One of heavy metal's most recognisable guitar voices, Glenn Tipton has been a cornerstone of Judas Priest since joining in 1974, and alongside bassist Ian Hill he is one of only two members to appear on every studio album the band has made. His playing is known for its classical influences and technically demanding solos, and his fingerprints are all over landmark records like British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance and Painkiller. British Steel in particular was a turning point, blending the band's heavy sound with hooky, pop shaped song structures that helped Judas Priest break through to mainstream rock audiences. During the band's 1990s hiatus Tipton put out his solo album Baptizm of Fire in 1997, and a second project, credited to Tipton, Entwistle and Powell, followed in 2006 as a tribute to John Entwistle and Cozy Powell. In 2018 he publicly revealed a Parkinson's diagnosis he had been living with since 2008, stepping back from touring duties while making clear he remains a member of the band. He still made a memorable appearance during the Firepower tour that year, joining Judas Priest on stage in Newark to play a handful of classics.
