About
Goblin Band are a four piece folk group from London whose roots run deep in English traditional music. They came together after the pandemic, growing out of informal sessions among young, queer friends who were passionate about folk and wanted to carve out their own space within it. That origin shapes everything about their sound: they are multi instrumentalists drawing on fiddle, squeezeboxes, hurdy gurdy and close harmony singing to build something that feels both ancient and urgently alive. What sets them apart is the perspective they bring to the tradition. Rather than treating English folk as heritage to be preserved behind glass, they engage with the social and political weight of the music, confronting histories of class struggle, industrialisation and colonialism head on. The result is riotous and joyful one moment, deeply sincere the next. Martin Carthy has called them "the band we've been waiting for", which in the English folk world carries considerable weight.
