Goldfinger built their name as one of the key acts in the third wave ska explosion of the mid to late 1990s, but the LA band was never content to stay in one lane. Their 1996 self titled debut gave them a genuine breakout moment with "Here in Your Bedroom", and Alternative Press later picked that record as one of the ten albums that defined 1996. Their cover of Nena's "99 Red Balloons", sung partly in German, became a crowd favourite and gave them a foothold in Europe. By the early 2000s they had largely dropped the ska horns and leaned into a heavier punk sound, eventually landing somewhere in pop punk territory. Frontman John Feldmann has been the one constant through all of it, steering the band across eight studio albums while also becoming a sought after producer for acts like Good Charlotte, Hilary Duff and the Used. Animal rights advocacy has also been a running thread through the band's work, showing up in lyrics and music videos alike.
