About
Also known as: GoldFishLive
Cape Town duo GoldFish, made up of Dominic Peters and David Poole, blend live jazz instrumentation with electronic production in a way that few acts manage convincingly. Peters handles keyboards and upright bass while Poole plays saxophone, flute and sings, and together they layer those sounds over samplers and synths to land somewhere between nu jazz, electronica and dancefloor electro swing. Their track "Fort Knox" ended up in a Kia Soul ad, "Washing Over Me" hit number one on South Africa's 5FM Top 40 and was picked up by Nike, and they've played stages at Glastonbury, Ultra Music Festival and SXSW. The duo has put out six albums, starting with Caught in the Loop in 2006 and running through to If Summer Was A Sound in 2023. Along the way they swept the South African Music Awards in 2009 with eight nominations and took home Best Engineer and Best Dance Album, then won Best Pop at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2014. Their earlier work even cracked the Dutch Albums Top 100, which tells you their appeal stretches well beyond the South African scene.
