About
Also known as: Gotan Proyet, Gothan Project, Gotán Project
Gotan Project's name is literally 'tango' with its syllables flipped, a wordplay trick from Lunfardo, the argot of Rioplatense Spanish, and that playful subversion pretty much sums up what they do musically. The Paris based trio of Eduardo Makaroff, Philippe Cohen Solal and Christoph H. Müller built their sound on classic Argentine tango and then laced it with electronic samples, beats and breaks, producing something that felt genuinely fresh when their debut album La Revancha del Tango landed in 2001. Their track 'Santa Maria (del Buen Ayre)' turned up in The Bourne Identity, Shall We Dance? and Knight and Day, which says a lot about how cinematic their sound is. Two more studio albums followed, Lunático in 2006 and Tango 3.0 in 2010, rounding out a catalogue that still sounds like nothing else in the electrotango space.
