About
Also known as: Denis Jasarevic, Denis Jašarević, Gr4m4tik
Slovenian producer Denis Jašarević, who records as Gramatik, built his reputation by giving music away for free before that was a particularly common strategy. His instrumental blend of boom bap, nu jazz, trip hop and glitch hop found an audience through Beatport, where his debut Expedition 44 and the Street Bangerz series ended up charting in the Chill Out category despite being rooted squarely in hip hop. That surprise success landed him a US booking agent and eventually a spot as the first signing to Pretty Lights Music. He later launched his own imprint, Lowtemp Recordings, home to side project Exmag and a handful of other acts. In 2017 he made headlines by tokenizing his intellectual property with his own cryptocurrency, GRMTK, raising the maximum of 2.48 million dollars in under 24 hours. His catalogue now runs to over a dozen albums, including The Age of Reason, Epigram and the Cyberpunk 2020 OST, and he has picked up three Best Track awards at the Beatport Music Awards.
