About

As first solo cellist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra since 1997, Gregor Horsch occupies one of the most prestigious chairs in classical music. The German cellist built his reputation through a string of major competition wins in the late 1980s and early 1990s, including the Pierre Fournier Award, the Scheveningen International Music Competition, and the Concours Gaspard Cassado. Before landing at the Concertgebouw, he held principal cellist positions with the Het Balletorkest and the Residentie Orchestra. Horsch is just as at home in chamber music as he is in the concerto repertoire, having performed alongside names like Emanuel Ax, Vadim Repin, and Bobby McFerrin. He gave the world premiere of Tristan Keuris's Double Concerto at the Manchester International Cello Festival, and his solo appearances have been conducted by figures including Jaap van Zweden and Leonard Slatkin. Away from the stage, he teaches at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf.
