About
Also known as: M.E. Unit, Soldier Walks Dead
Grendel named themselves after the monster in Beowulf, which tells you something about their aesthetic right away. The Den Haag outfit, built around JD Tucker, deals in aggrotech and electro industrial with enough muscle to hold their own on festival stages worldwide. Their early track "Strangers" made waves in European dance circles, and the 2004 album Prescription: Medicide hit number one on the Dutch Underground Charts and landed album of the month in German genre press. Part of that album's notoriety came from a cover of Zombie Nation's Kernkraft 400, which later caused enough copyright trouble that a whole EP had to be reworked and rereleased. Harsh Generation in 2007 sharpened their sound and kept them locked in the top five of the German Alternative Charts for months. Timewave Zero in 2012 pushed into EDM territory, blending trance and electro influences with their usual industrial backbone. They kept building on that momentum through Age of the Disposable Body in 2017 and Ascending the Abyss in 2019, both backed by extensive North American tours that saw them playing well over thirty dates each time.
