About
Also known as: GRP All Star Big Band
Put together by GRP Records founders Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen in the late 1980s, the GRP All Star Big Band brought a fresh take to classic jazz by crafting new arrangements of popular pieces from the 1950s and 1960s. The project was as much a showcase for the GRP roster as it was a genuine creative endeavor, pulling together top tier players under one roof. The band racked up Grammy nominations for both their self titled album and the live record Dave Grusin Presents GRP All Star Big Band Live!, and then took home the Grammy for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album in 1995 for All Blues. That win cemented their place as one of the more ambitious big band projects of the contemporary jazz era.
