Gülşen has been one of Turkey's most dominant pop voices since her debut album Be Adam dropped in 1996, but it was the 2004 release Of... Of... that turned her into a genuine household name. The title single won her a Golden Butterfly Award and a Turkey Music Award, and from there she kept building momentum with certified hits and a string of number ones on Türkçe Top 20. Her 2013 album Beni Durdursan mı? became Turkey's best selling album that year, with Bangır Bangır following it up as the second best selling album of 2015. What sets her apart from most pop acts is how seriously she takes the craft of songwriting. She writes a lot of her own material and has produced hit songs for other artists too. In 2015 she became the Turkish singer with the most YouTube viewers, and the following year she crossed 200 million views on a single music video, a first for any Turkish artist on the platform. Six Golden Butterfly Awards and nine Kral Turkey Music Awards give some idea of the scale of her success.
