About
Guus Tangelder is a bandleader with deep roots in the Arnhem jazz scene, and his big band has long been the centre of that story. Musicians who came up under him have gone on to lead the band themselves, with saxophonist Jesse Schilderink and conductor Chris Muller both counted among the people who came out of his circle. The band has played with some of the Dutch jazz scene's best known soloists, including trumpeter Eric Vloeimans, trombonist Ilja Reijngoud and vocalist Vera Westera. Its repertoire mixes pieces by trumpeter Bert Lochs and compositions by Chris Muller, and it has played arrangements by Martin Fondse. Concerts the band once gave at Kunsthuis 13 in Velp were recorded, and that music ended up on a CD accompanying a book about Tangelder, his music and the Arnhem jazz scene around him.
