Habib

About

One of the founding figures of Iranian rock music, Habib Mohebian built a reputation not just as a singer but as a composer and arranger who wrote all of his own material. His 1977 debut album Mard e Tanha ye Shab made him a household name, and his signature use of the twelve string guitar gave his sound a distinctly textured quality that set him apart from his contemporaries. After leaving Iran following the revolution and settling in Los Angeles, he found his footing again with Bezan Baran in 1996 and the follow up Kavir e Bavar in 1999. Later he shared the stage with his son Mohammad, loosening up his approach a little to help bring Mohammad's career along. He returned to Iran in 2009 but was never granted permission to perform or release an album there. He kept putting out singles until shortly before his death in June 2016.
