About
Hana Blažíková is a Czech soprano and harpist whose work sits squarely in the world of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music. She is a core member of the Bach Collegium Japan under Masaaki Suzuki, contributing to the ensemble's landmark project to record the complete cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach, both as a chorister and soloist. A reviewer once singled out her "fresh and bright sounding soprano" in a cantata duet alongside bass Peter Kooy, which says a lot about what makes her voice distinctive in this repertoire. Beyond Bach, Blažíková has worked with Philippe Herreweghe and the Collegium Vocale Gent on Bach's St Matthew Passion, sung the soprano part of the St John Passion with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and collaborated with ensembles ranging from the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra to Gli Angeli Genève. She also plays medieval harp and often accompanies herself, and has been part of the all female Tiburtina ensemble since 2008. Her 2013 solo debut focused on rarely heard German Baroque cantatas, a telling sign of where her deepest interests lie.
