About
Harakiri for the Sky built their sound around the bleaker corners of post black metal, blending blackgaze atmospherics with melodic death metal weight and lyrics that dig into depression, dystopia, and dread. The Vienna and Salzburg duo of vocalist JJ and multi instrumentalist Matthias Sollak have been at it since 2011, releasing six studio albums on German label AOP Records, from their self titled debut through Aokigahara, III: Trauma, Arson, Mӕre, and the 2025 release Scorched Earth. Their catalogue is full of unexpected moves, including covers of Placebo, Tears for Fears, and Radiohead's "Street Spirit (Fade Out)", the last featuring P.G. of Groza. They've collaborated with Neige of Alcest, Tim Yatras of Austere, and Eklatanz of Heretoir, which says a lot about where they sit in the wider post black metal world. Despite officially being a two piece, they expand to a full live band for shows, with a touring lineup that has been largely stable for over a decade.
