About
Harald Lassen is a Norwegian saxophonist and bandleader from Kristiansand whose sound sits at the restless edge of jazz, pulling in influences that range from Nordic introspection to African rhythms. His work with Mopti earned him the Jazzintro award at Moldejazz in 2012, and he has shared stages and sessions with heavyweights like Tord Gustavsen, Mathias Eick, and Ray Phiri. A spell in Zanzibar in 2013, where he helped launch a jazz program at the Dhow Countries Music Academy, says a lot about how seriously he takes music as a living, breathing exchange rather than just a performance. As the frontman of LASSEN, he released Eventyrer on Jazzland Recordings in 2018, followed by a remix companion album the next year. His discography stretches across an impressive number of collaborative projects, including Pixel, Duplex, No. 4, and Mopti, so there is rarely a dull corner to explore. He joined the Oslo Jazzfestival board in 2015, cementing his role not just as a performer but as a genuine stakeholder in the Norwegian jazz scene.
