Harmonieorkest Excelsior Wassenaar

Harmonieorkest Excelsior Wassenaar

Harmonieorkest Excelsior Wassenaar has one upcoming show in the Netherlands: on November 1, 2026 at Theater De Muze, Noordwijk.

About

Excelsior is a wind orchestra from Wassenaar with more than 50 members, and it describes itself as both ambitious and sociable. It is firmly rooted in its home town but increasingly plays across the wider region. Geert Schrijvers conducts. The orchestra likes to build programmes around a theme and a bit of spectacle. One of its concerts centred on the sea, with Frigyes Hidas's symphony Save the Sea at the heart of it, alongside pieces by Gustav Holst, Philip Glass and David Maslanka. Thorwald Jørgensen played theremin as a soloist, pianist Claire van Kempen added quieter still life pieces between the orchestral numbers, and footage from the European Space Agency was projected so the evening worked for the eyes as well as the ears.
