About
Also known as: Cateen, Hayato Sumino, かてぃん
Hayato Sumino is a Japanese pianist based in New York who reached the semi finals of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2021, which opened the door to performances with leading orchestras and concert halls around the world. He is a Sony Classical exclusive artist and has released the album Chopin Orbit, a programme that blends Chopin masterworks with his own original compositions and improvisations, alongside pieces by other composers who drew inspiration from Chopin. Rather than writing pastiche, Sumino is after something more personal: capturing the essence of Chopin while filtering it through his own modern sensibility. Beyond the concert stage, he has built a substantial following as a composer, improviser and YouTube presence.
